Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, Non-Medical Prescriber

RICHARD DOWELL, BSC, MSC

Richard is an experienced and highly qualified physiotherapist with a passion for helping people recover from injury, reduce pain, and return to doing what they love. He graduated with honours in Physiotherapy from Keele University in 2013, beginning his career within the NHS at Queen’s Hospital Burton. Over the years, Richard developed expertise in managing both acute and chronic conditions, progressing into senior roles that included a focus on shoulder injuries and acute trauma management within the emergency department. His work in A&E saw him assess and treat a wide range of injuries—including fractures, dislocations, and sporting trauma—working with both amateur and professional athletes.

In 2018, Richard completed a Master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Nottingham, expanding his knowledge in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimisation for active individuals. He also became qualified in injection therapy, performing numerous steroid injections in clinical practice. Committed to ongoing professional development, Richard completed the Non-Medical

Prescribing course at the University of Derby in 2021, enabling him to prescribe medications when appropriate as part of his patients’ treatment plans. Richard’s approach to physiotherapy combines evidence-based exercise rehabilitation with hands-on treatments such as manual therapy and sports massage. He believes in empowering patients through education and strength-based rehab, helping them achieve long-term recovery and improved physical resilience.
